Local Electricians Who Know What’s Behind Your Walls

Every home carries an electrical history worth understanding before the work begins.

After more than 50 years of electrical work across Princeton, Hopewell, West Windsor, and the rest of our service area, we’ve been inside enough homes in this region to recognize the patterns, the previous contractors’ signatures, and the shortcuts worth catching before they become bigger problems. A panel upgraded twice. Circuits added for a home office. Dedicated runs for an EV charger. A finished basement wired years after the original construction.

An electrician who reads the current state of the system accurately is the difference between a repair that holds and a repair that needs repeating. Our electricians do that work before proposing any scope, so the plan matches what your home actually needs.

When Something Feels Off, Don’t Wait to Get Help

An electrical emergency won’t wait until morning, and neither should the call.

A burning smell near the panel, sparks from an outlet, a breaker that won’t hold, or a sudden loss of power all call for an immediate response. Princeton Air dispatches licensed electricians 24/7 for emergency electrical repair across New Jersey. We isolate the hazard first, then trace the cause, then complete the repair to code so the problem is actually solved, not deferred.

New Jersey Chooses Princeton Air for Electrical Services

Princeton Air handles HVAC, plumbing, indoor air quality, and home performance under one licensed operation, which means the electrician working in your panel understands how the rest of the house connects to it. When the work touches the furnace, the water heater, or the ductwork, nothing gets handed off to a stranger.

Princeton Air has answered the call for generations of New Jersey homeowners. The business is still here because the work keeps holding up and the next homeowner keeps calling back.

A repair that returns six months later isn’t a repair. Our electricians trace every problem to its actual origin and address it there, so the fix is still in place two winters from now.

Electrical systems evolve over decades of use and renovation. Our electricians diagnose current installations accurately and handle the work the same way whether the equipment is brand new or long-established.

Every repair, upgrade, and new installation meets current New Jersey electrical code. Permits get pulled. Inspections get scheduled. The finish gets checked twice before the technician leaves.

When a problem can’t wait until tomorrow, same-day dispatch is available across the service area. Safety-critical calls move to the top of the queue, with a licensed electrician en route as quickly as the dispatch window allows.

The Comfort Club is how our customers stay ahead of electrical problems rather than reacting to them. Members get scheduled inspections, priority access, and preferred pricing that turn reactive service calls into predictable maintenance.

A right-sized panel, modern circuit layout, and smart lighting choices quietly reduce what the household spends on electricity every month. When we’re already on-site for other work, we flag efficiency opportunities that pay back over the life of the home.

Dominic McGinley was kind, cordial, knowledgable and professional. He has been very helpful with trouble shooting fan speed issues with my new Carrier furnace.
Heโ€™s really great, super nice technician.
Thank you.
Jose Colon was friendly and professional. I spent about an hour with him as he performed myAC preseason maintenance on my 2 year old Carrier unit.
I had my AC Maintenance done, the technician Ryan Gobel, was extremely thorough and professional, answered any and all questions.
Iโ€™ve been dealing with Princeton Air for over forty years and have always been extremely satisfied
We have used Princeton Air twice for our HVAC and once for plumbing. Each time, the technician was courteous and professional, and the issues were resolved. We recommend Princeton Air!
Tech from Princeton Air (Brian Hassan) showed up on time and performed yearly maintenance on our Kohler Generator. Very professional and courteous technician. Thanks for taking care of our generator like it was your own.

Just had a tech Cruise Rodriguez trouble shoot a minor wiring issue on our new Carrier furnace which was installed this week. As we were installing a new thermostat WiFi Honeywell there was a mismatch which Cruise located and rewired. System seems to be up and running with new thermostat.
Thank you Cruise for your expert help in resolving this issue.
Dominic is very professional and clearly knows what he is doing .
Jonathon and Louis were professional and neat! They Answered all my questions
Dominic was extremely pleasant, professional, and thorough,. He was also quite efficient. He quickly diagnosed the situation and was able to correct it. He also took the time to patiently explain my thermostat to me. Then he signed me up as a member. So heโ€™s a pretty good sales guy too!
However, I then set up an appointment for maintenance and twice Princeton Air canceled me. Iโ€™m now set up for maintenance the end of June. And thatโ€™s after they tried to set me up the end of July and I complained. And this is after Dominic signed me up as a member. Thereโ€™s something very wrong with their business model and I do not consider this good customer service. I will likely have to look for a different serviceโ€ฆ. something more responsive.
I had a great experience with Princeton Air. I had an issue with a part of my healer leaking. Within an hour of calling about this problem, Dylan, the technician, arrived at my house. He soon identified the problem. The next day 3 technicians came back and replaced the faulty part.
Repair went smoothly and efficiently, very satisfied.
One of the worries anyone with a new system would have is if it turns bad, how can it be cared of. Princeton Air answers that question. They responded quickly, sent technicians to look at the issue, and found the proper solution for you. The coordinator at the office is very nice; she would answer my email, and call me back about it even it was on weekends. Such a call is important because it tells you that you are not left out! Wish they will continue the good service. Feng.
Always appreciative of service from Princeton Air. This time it was to install a new quick-Connect hose for the gas grill. Friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. Thank you for the great service.
Technician was knowledgeable. He was able to find the issue quickly and fix the problem without issue.
Very good service. Cruise did a terrific job resolving our problem and was a pleasure to speak with.
I am so thankful to Princeton Air for sending to me your very best technician, Dominic M, on April 2 to do the maintenance for my air conditioner! Dominic is very professional, knowledgeable and talented. He was so thorough and he explained everything to me as he did it in a way to be sure I could understand. He explained what was working well and what problems needed to be addressed, then came out 2 days later and completed the repairs! I'm so thankful and I would highly recommend Dominic M!!
Tom did a great job of identifying and repairing a pinhole leak in our minisplit AC system. The cost was high, but the amount of labor and material justified it – these things ain't cheap! Tom is a very personable and knowledgeable tech.
Technician arrived promptly and diagnosed the problem with our air-conditioning as being the blower that was not operating properly. Karume advised us of the ordering process, quoted us a price for the part as well as who to contact at Princeton Air Parts Dept on Monday for more information on how long it would take for the part to come in and be installed. Karume is an exemplary employee and is always welcome to make a service call at our house.
Great job.on time great experience
Great experience. Workers explained everything and completed the work.
All communication with the office was excellent. The electrician Brian who did the work explained the issue, the process of the repair and the new work beyond my expectations.

Dominic M. And Christian were great honest, thorough, and very professional. We just moved into our new home and are thrilled to have started a maintenance membership with this company. The experience was smooth and reassuring from start to finish. Highly recommend!

Elevated Standards for Everyday Service

A flickering light and a full panel upgrade are different problems, but both deserve the same careful standard of work.

Electricity runs every meaningful part of modern life in your house, from the refrigerator to the Wi-Fi to the lamp you read under. When any piece of that system stops performing the way it should,

Princeton Air’s licensed electricians are ready to find the cause and resolve it. We cover service, upgrades, emergency response, and planned improvements for homes across New Jersey.

Generators

A properly sized backup generator keeps the rest of your home functioning when the grid doesn’t.

New Jersey sees its share of outages, and a loss of power for even a few hours affects refrigeration, heating, cooling, medical equipment, and any remote work happening in the house.

Princeton Air evaluates your household’s actual power load, recommends capacity that fits that load, and integrates the generator cleanly with your panel. We also handle the permitting, the maintenance schedule, and the occasional repair calls that come with owning one.

  • Generator Installation: A generator installation is only as good as the planning behind it. Princeton Air runs the load calculation, selects equipment sized to your real household demand, coordinates permitting, and integrates the unit with your electrical panel so the backup kicks in the moment the grid fails.
  • Generator Maintenance: Generators only prove themselves when the power goes out, which means the time to verify they’re working is between outages, not during one. Our maintenance visits cover fuel, transfer switches, battery condition, and startup sequence so the unit performs on the day it matters.
  • Generator Repair: A generator that won’t start or transfers power unreliably needs careful diagnosis, not a guess. Princeton Air works through the electrical, mechanical, and control side of the system to identify the actual cause and complete the repair.
  • Generator Replacement: When a generator has reached the end of its useful life, we walk you through the options, match the replacement unit to your household’s current needs, and handle the installation cleanly.
  • Generac Generators: Princeton Air installs and services Generac standby generators throughout the service area. These systems deliver dependable whole-home backup power when configured and maintained properly, and we bring that configuration experience to every job.

Lighting

Good lighting does quiet, important work in every room of the house.

Lighting shapes mood, supports tasks, and sets the character of a space, and it does all of that while hiding the electrical work behind the scenes.

Princeton Air installs, upgrades, and services residential lighting across every category, from recessed fixtures in a finished basement to landscape lighting along a driveway. We handle the wiring with the care finished spaces require.

  • Indoor Lighting: Princeton Air installs and services interior lighting throughout the home, including recessed fixtures, ceiling fans, vanity lights, and under-cabinet work. Wiring is tidy behind the finish, connections are secure, and the result looks the way the room was meant to look.
  • Outdoor Lighting: Exterior lighting adds both security and visual appeal when it’s installed thoughtfully. We handle pathway fixtures, floodlights, porch lighting, and perimeter installations with weatherproof connections and mounting designed to hold up through New Jersey winters.
  • Smart Lighting: A smart lighting system puts dimming, scheduling, and scene control in your hand or on a voice command. Princeton Air installs systems that talk cleanly to whatever platform you already use, so the experience is genuinely useful instead of frustrating, and the efficiency gains show up on the bill.
  • UV Light Installation: A UV light installed inside your HVAC cabinet kills a percentage of the biological contaminants moving through your ductwork before they circulate through the house. Placement matters here, since the wrong spot diminishes the effect, and the wiring has to handle the specifics of the equipment. We install both correctly.

Electrical Panels

The panel is the piece of your electrical system that matters most and gets thought about least.

Most homes have panels that were sized for an era of lower electrical demand. Today’s kitchens, home offices, EV chargers, and HVAC equipment push well past those original specifications, and when a panel is undersized, the rest of the system works harder than it should.

Princeton Air assesses your current panel, identifies capacity or safety concerns, and completes upgrades that match current code and current demand.

  • Electrical Panel Installation: A panel installation is a careful project. We handle the load calculation, specify breakers appropriate to each circuit, coordinate with the utility when needed, and complete the work to current New Jersey electrical code. The panel that results supports your home now and absorbs future additions comfortably.
  • Electrical Upgrades: An electrical upgrade can mean a new circuit, a larger service entrance, a sub-panel for a finished basement, or a full panel replacement. Princeton Air evaluates what the household actually needs and scopes the upgrade accordingly, without pushing work that doesn’t earn its place.

Circuit Breakers

Circuit breakers are the silent guardians of your entire electrical system.

A breaker’s job is to trip before an overload turns into damage. When they trip often, fail to reset, or show wear, the protection gets weaker and the risk climbs.

Princeton Air diagnoses breaker problems accurately and restores proper protection through careful installation, repair, or replacement.

  • Circuit Breaker Installation:We install breakers matched to each circuit’s actual load and the panel’s specifications. Every connection is torqued correctly, every label is updated, and every circuit gets tested before the cover goes back on.
  • Circuit Breaker Repair: A breaker that trips repeatedly is usually responding to something real, not malfunctioning. We identify what’s actually causing the trips and resolve the cause, then address any wear on the breaker itself.

Outlets

An outlet that holds a plug loosely, feels warm, or gives a small shock is telling you something important.

Princeton Air installs, replaces, and upgrades outlets across the home, from ordinary receptacles to GFCIs in wet areas and USB-integrated outlets in kitchens and bedrooms. Each installation is grounded, tested, and completed to code.

  • Electrical Outlet Installation: Princeton Air installs outlets with clean wiring, secure mounting in the box, and proper grounding. When the work involves running new cable to the outlet location, we handle that routing carefully within finished spaces.
  • GFCI Outlet Installation: GFCI protection is required in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, basements, and outdoor locations. We install GFCI outlets that trip accurately under actual fault conditions and that reset cleanly afterward, in full compliance with current electrical code.

Surge Protection

A single surge can erase the electronics investment in your home faster than you can call the insurance company.

Whole-home surge protection installed at the panel creates a line of defense between the grid and everything plugged into it.

Princeton Air sizes the protector to your home’s service, installs it where the equipment specification calls for, and verifies the coordination with your existing breakers. The result shields electronics, appliances, and HVAC equipment from lightning, utility transients, and internal surges alike.

EV Chargers

An electric vehicle needs a home charging station that’s ready from the day it arrives in the driveway.

Princeton Air handles the full EV charger project: panel capacity assessment, dedicated circuit installation, and Level 2 equipment mounting. We weatherproof outdoor installations and route cable cleanly inside garages. The installation supports one vehicle today and has headroom for a second one added later.

Electrical Wiring

What’s inside the walls is the part of your electrical system you never see and can’t afford to ignore.

Aluminum branch circuits, knob-and-tube remnants, ungrounded two-prong runs, and overloaded multi-wire circuits are conditions we diagnose and resolve regularly.

Princeton Air inspects the wiring actually present in your home, identifies what needs addressing, and completes rewiring with careful attention to finished surfaces and structural considerations. The result is a safe, compliant electrical foundation that doesn’t announce itself after the work is done.

Visual inspection icon

Thermography Inspections

Thermal imaging sees the electrical problems your eyes can’t.

A thermographic inspection uses heat-detection equipment to reveal overloaded circuits, deteriorating connections, and developing faults inside panels, junction boxes, and breakers, often months before they become visible problems.

Princeton Air performs these inspections throughout the service area as both a diagnostic tool when something feels wrong and a preventive step for older systems. The report that comes back is the picture of your electrical system you didn’t know you needed.

Protect What Powers Your Home With Princeton Air

An electrical system that gets careful attention stays quietly in the background. Princeton Air delivers careful, code-compliant service to New Jersey homeowners across the full range of work, from a single outlet repair to a whole-house rewiring project. Schedule your service today.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my electrical panel needs to be replaced?

Panels that are more than 30 years old, panels bearing brand names that have been documented to fail (Federal Pacific, Zinsco, Challenger), panels with visible rust or burn marks, panels that trip breakers frequently under normal household load, and panels in homes that have added major loads like EV chargers or heat pumps without a corresponding service upgrade are all candidates for replacement. A Princeton Air electrician can assess the specific panel in your home and give you a straight answer.

Do I need a permit for electrical work in New Jersey?

Most meaningful electrical work in New Jersey requires a permit and inspection. Panel replacements, service upgrades, new circuits, generator installations, EV charger installations, and rewiring projects all fall into permit-required categories. Princeton Air handles the permit process on every job where it applies, from application through the final inspection.

Is whole-home surge protection really necessary?

For homes with significant electronics investment, including HVAC equipment, appliances with control boards, computers, networking gear, and entertainment systems, whole-home surge protection is one of the higher-return upgrades available. Point-of-use power strips protect individual devices. A panel-mounted surge protector protects everything behind the panel, including the wiring itself, from transients that happen dozens of times a year without most homeowners knowing.

Can you upgrade wiring without major disruption to finished spaces?

Yes, within limits. Princeton Air handles rewiring projects in finished homes by planning cable routes through attics, basements, and existing accessible runs wherever possible to minimize wall access. Some wall access is typically required for any rewiring project. We discuss the specific access plan with you before the work begins so there are no surprises, and we handle finished space protection carefully throughout.

Do You Offer Emergency HVAC Service in New Jersey?

Yes. Princeton Air provides 24/7 emergency service across New Jersey for both electrical and HVAC emergencies. A January heating failure, an August air conditioning breakdown, or an electrical emergency at any hour gets responded to with the urgency and technical capability the situation requires.
