What to Expect From Your Boiler Installation

A boiler project should feel organized and clear for you, even when the work itself is involved.

Here’s how the experience goes.

Your NATE-certified technician comes to the house and reviews the existing boiler, the near-boiler piping, the venting path, and the condition of your radiators or radiant loops.

You share how the current system has been performing and where the household feels cold. The recommendation comes from what your home actually needs.

Boiler work touches gas, venting, hydronic piping, controls, and sometimes electrical. Your licensed team coordinates all of it, protects the spaces we pass through, and handles the permits and inspections as part of the job.

Before anyone leaves, combustion is verified with analyzer readings, water flow is confirmed through every zone, and the controls are tested. You get a walkthrough of the thermostat and the system, and you know what the boiler should sound and feel like on a normal winter day.

Your relationship with Princeton Air doesn’t end at the install. You have a local team with more than 50 years of experience installing and maintaining boilers across the region, and we’re the ones you call when anything comes up. Annual service is what keeps a high-efficiency boiler hitting its rated efficiency year after year.

Princeton Air condition was extraordinary!! I received a very fair quote immediately after Inspection of my HVAC systemby their talented technician. Their technicians were prompts, professional, and polite. They installed a new system with precision and followed up Professionally. Totally proud to work with Princeton.!!
Ryan G came by and provide tips and recommendations so thorough and with full clarity that I believe will benefit in the long haul. Because of this, I was confident to re-sign up for their maintenance program. He was a true professional who is highly knowledgeable and enthusiastic with the work that he is called to do.
We had Norman. He was here a few hours and checked out my HVAC systems for the summer.
He was careful and professional.
Jose and Corey were a great team and genuinely seemed to care about solving our issues.
I had A/C installed in May, but waited to write a review to see how effective the units can be once it's hot out. Now that I've gone through a couple high temperature days where I turned the mini splits on, I can post a review that I am completely satisfied with the installation by Princeton Air Conditioning and the ease of usage of units. I also will add that it was a pleasure to have Mike C. and Christian J. on the job; they, along with the crews that were on site over the course of the two days, were professional, communicative and upfront. I'd recommend this company to anyone looking for services.
Professional and friendly staff
Air conditioning wasn't working and they came out and got it fixed within a day. Ryan did a great job making sure everything was up and running quickly.
The job was done smoothly and efficiently and right on time
Ryan G got our old air conditioner working again quickly during a bad heat wave and, when we were ready, he explained all our options very well and laid the groundwork to make it easy for us to have installed a new air conditioner. Plus he rescued our cat three times when our cat tried to get out through the garage. He was very kind to all our pets and to us. Thank you, Ryan G!
Dominic was extremely pleasant, professional, and thorough,. He was also quite efficient. He quickly diagnosed the situation and was able to correct it. He also took the time to patiently explain my thermostat to me. Then he signed me up as a member. So heโ€™s a pretty good sales guy too!
However, I then set up an appointment for maintenance and twice Princeton Air canceled me. Iโ€™m now set up for maintenance the end of June. And thatโ€™s after they tried to set me up the end of July and I complained. And this is after Dominic signed me up as a member. Thereโ€™s something very wrong with their business model and I do not consider this good customer service. I will likely have to look for a different serviceโ€ฆ. something more responsive.
Tech (Alex) was on time, courteous, very professional. He let me know that, because of my contract w/McCallister, I would have no extra payment for the part needed.
The repair man, Dominic came out this morning to inspect our AC system. He was extremely knowledgeable, incredibly kind, and explained things very well. I work in construction and can tell you that Dominic is one of the best Iโ€™ve seen in years. Princeton air is very lucky to have him as an employee as he is SUCH AN ASSET to your company.

I also want to give a special thanks to Leah the customer service representative I spoke to. Also extremely kind and helpful. I have had the worst two weeks of my life and two strangers taking the time to kind made my heart smile. Thanks again Leah and Dominic. Chuck our Project Manager has been very kind and knowledgeable through this process as well. I am grateful for the people who work here as they made this pretty easy. Thank you all so much.
Latrell Romulus from Princeton Air did a great job of making sure my AC units were working properly. He was thorough and knowledgeable, and communicated potential areas of concern in a very clear manner.
Great job ! Very knowledgeable and informative. He made sure I was aware of any issues and explained it thoroughly! I look forward to having him again !!
Ryan did a fantastic job for us. He was patient and thorough. Thank you, way to go.
This is an outstanding company on all levels.
The team at Princeton Air Conditioning has been excellent. Wilver Matos was great, knowledgeable, customer service oriented and willing to help. He was also preemptive in solutioning comprehensively for the water heater installation especially since there was some mix-up originally but he worked to sort it out.
The technician Alfredo is great
So far it has been very good!!!!
Mike showed up right on time. He was personable and knowledgable. He took his time to explain the different options for water heater replacement, and answered my questions fully. All good.
This was a follow up call on an issue we had with a new HVAC system we had installed a little over a year ago for our upstairs that couldnโ€™t be fixed without Tech Support from both Princeton Air and Lenox. Jose showed up right on time and went to work with Lenox to determine our problem. It was determined that our new system would have to have the coils replaced and we would not be responsible for any repairs. Jose was extremely pleasant to deal with and took his time to explain to us what probably caused this issue. With technicians like Jose now working for Princeton Air we are very happy customers again.
Thanks so much for the EXCELLENT service from Norman. He was very knowledgeable and so friendly. Really nice guy. Thank you Norman and thank you Princeton Air.
The technician was absolutely positively wonderful. Was very kind, thoughtful and most of all patient. Found the problem quickly and I was back in business. It is because of him I will be using Princeton Air for all of my plumbing issues and will be scheduling a maintenance appointment requesting this same technician. Thank you again for such wonderful service. I happily recommend this company.
Dylan did a great job. He kept me informed about the repair and was very kind snd courteous.
Daniel Sarajew provided excellent service analyzing and evaluating my AC unit issues. Thank you Daniel!

Signs Your Boiler Is Ready for Replacement

Boilers usually announce their retirement quietly, through the fuel bill or the comfort of the house.

Recognizing the signals early lets you plan the replacement for a mild week in fall instead of a cold snap in January.

Older boilers lose efficiency gradually. The heat exchanger scales up, controls drift off calibration, and the combustion no longer burns cleanly. A system from the 1990s typically runs at 70 to 80 percent efficiency, and some older oil boilers run far below that. Modern condensing boilers regularly deliver 90 to 95 percent efficiency, which translates directly into fuel savings every month of the heating season. Over a New Jersey winter, that difference adds up to real money.

A boiler that fires, runs for a few minutes, shuts off, then fires again is short-cycling. It’s either oversized, poorly controlled, or both. Short-cycling wears out components and burns fuel inefficiently, and it’s one of the most common problems in older boiler systems. A correctly sized replacement runs longer and steadier, which is how a hydronic system is supposed to work. The comfort improvement through the house is immediate.

Cold rooms at the far end of the distribution, or zones that simply can’t hold temperature during a cold snap, often point to a boiler that can’t deliver the water temperature it needs to. In some cases, the distribution system also needs work the old boiler masked with brute force. A full installation addresses the boiler, the near-boiler piping, and the controls together. The heat finally reaches the rooms that have been cold for years.

Visible rust on the boiler, damp connections, or water pooling near the unit all signal that the heat exchanger or the piping is failing. Once internal corrosion sets in, the timeline to full failure is unpredictable. Replacing on your schedule is almost always better than a mid-winter failure when every heating contractor in the region is booked solid. The cost difference between planned and emergency replacement is significant.

Cast iron boilers from the 1980s and 1990s can run for 30 years or more, but their efficiency was never great and their fuel consumption compared to modern equipment is meaningful. If your boiler is past the 20-year mark, a replacement often pays back the investment through fuel savings alone across its life. Modern high-efficiency boilers also qualify for substantial New Jersey Clean Energy Program rebates and federal tax credits, which shift the economics in your favor. We walk through current incentives during the consultation.

Why New Jersey Homeowners Return to Princeton Air for Boiler Installation

Hydronic heating is specialized work that rewards real experience.

For more than 50 years, homeowners across the region have brought their boiler projects to Princeton Air.

Every boiler installation is handled by NATE-certified technicians who know combustion, controls, and distribution. Hydronic work isn’t the same as forced-air work, and the team that installs your boiler treats it that way.

High-efficiency condensing boilers require specific venting, condensate handling, and near-boiler piping to hit their rated efficiency. Cutting corners on any of these shortens the unit’s life and costs you the savings you paid for. Our installations follow the practices that make the equipment work.

Boiler installations require permits in most New Jersey municipalities, and inspections are part of the process. We pull the permits, schedule the inspections, and make sure the job passes before we consider the project closed.

From Trenton and Hightstown to Summit and New Providence, we’ve installed boilers in homes of every era. That range shapes the decisions we make about sizing, piping layout, and control strategy.

Oil to gas conversions, condensing versus conventional, combi versus indirect: the choices add up, and not every answer is the same for every home. We walk through the options with real numbers and no pressure.

The New Jersey Clean Energy Program, utility rebates through PSE&G and JCP&L, and federal tax credits through the Inflation Reduction Act can reduce the net cost of a high-efficiency boiler meaningfully. We help you capture what’s available.

The work we do on installation day is the work you’ll live with through many winters. We stand behind it, and we’re the team you call when anything needs attention.

Boiler Installation FAQs

Should I replace my boiler with a high-efficiency condensing model?

Often yes, but not always. High-efficiency condensing boilers save meaningful fuel across a New Jersey winter, but they require specific venting, condensate handling, and sometimes updated near-boiler piping. For some homes and installation situations, a conventional non-condensing boiler is the better choice. We give you the honest comparison rather than a default answer.

Does the size of the replacement need to match my old boiler?

Usually not. Many older boilers were dramatically oversized when they were installed, which is part of why they short-cycle and waste fuel. Proper sizing comes from a heat load calculation on your current home, not from matching the nameplate on the unit coming out. The replacement is often noticeably smaller and performs better for it.

Can you convert from oil heat to gas?

Yes. Oil-to-gas conversions are one of the common boiler projects we handle. The scope includes the new gas boiler, venting, gas line connection, and safe decommissioning of the oil tank and lines. The fuel cost savings typically pay back the conversion investment across the life of the new system.

Are there rebates available for a new boiler in New Jersey?

Yes. The New Jersey Clean Energy Program, PSE&G, and JCP&L all offer rebates for high-efficiency boiler installations that change year to year. Federal tax credits apply to qualifying equipment through the Inflation Reduction Act. We track current incentives and structure the installation to capture them.

How long will the installation take?

Most boiler installations take one to two days. Projects that include near-boiler piping changes, oil-to-gas conversion, or major venting updates can extend that. You’ll have a clear schedule before any work begins.
