Sump Pump Installation That Keeps Your Basement Dry

A sump pump does its most important work at the moments you’re least able to deal with the alternative.

When the power goes out in the middle of a heavy storm, the sump pump is the one piece of equipment deciding whether your basement stays dry.

Princeton Air handles sump pump installation with licensed plumbers, properly sized primary pumps, and battery backup systems that take over automatically during an outage. After the install, spring rains and summer thunderstorms stop being a reason to check the basement, and the finished space below stays protected.

Call Princeton Air today or schedule sump pumps services online today.

Your Local Plumbers for Sump Pump Installation

Groundwater is a year-round concern across much of the state.

Homeowners in Hillsborough Township, Edison, Hamilton Township, and Lawrence Township have worked with our licensed plumbers to install primary sump pumps, battery backups, and combination systems that protect finished basements from the weather New Jersey sees.

Clay soil, high water tables, and summer storm intensity all shape what the right system looks like, and our plumbers size and configure each installation to the conditions on that specific property.

What to Expect From Your Sump Pump Installation

You should know what the work looks like before anyone touches the basement.

The sump system is easy to install wrong in ways you only discover during the next storm. These four steps exist to prevent issues and make sump pump installation easy and fast.

Your licensed plumber reviews the existing pit, the discharge line, the electrical outlet, and the condition of the foundation around the pit. If the home has never had a sump pump, we evaluate where one should go and what the install would involve.

The basement floor and stairs are protected throughout the work. The new pump is set in the pit, the discharge line is connected and routed away from the foundation, and the electrical is tied in cleanly. Battery backups and combination systems are configured to take over automatically if the primary pump fails.

Water goes into the pit to test actual pump activation, cycle time, and discharge. The check valve, the float switch, and the backup system all get verified. You get a walkthrough of what the system should sound like normally and what warning signs to watch for.

Your relationship with Princeton Air doesn’t end at the install. You have a local team with more than 50 years of experience servicing homes across the region, and we’re the ones you call when anything comes up. Annual sump pump checks keep the equipment ready for the storm that matters.

On time service , respectful of property. I have had the same technician for the last few visits and I feel he really knows my property and that is so helpful. Wonderful man
We have the gold plan which includes two maintenance visits per year. The technician Cory looked at the whole system and installed a new filter in the air handler. I was afraid the annual filter replacement was no longer included in the plan.

Routine maintenance of air conditioner for upcoming season.
Jorge did an excellent job of diagnosing the problem with our furnace. In addition to relying on his own expertise, he reached out to the Carrier tech support to see if they agreed with his diagnosis. At each step of the way, he carefully explained what he was doing and why he was doing it. He is the best HVAC tech that I have encountered since we moved into our house.
Was very pleasant, went about his work quietly and explained everything clearly.

While I was in the process of selling my house recently, a municipal inspector examined the water hearted installation and confirmed that it was done correctly and met all standards; however I still needed to obtain a formal permit for the unit. After making several inquires, I encountered some companies that were unresponsive, while others even misrepresented the facts – falsely claiming that my water heater was non-compliant and needed to be replaced. This was despite the fact that my current unit met all standards, was only six years old and was functioning perfectly – and I had already expressed my willingness to pay the necessary fees to secure the proper documentation. Then I reached out to this company in Princeton. Not only did I receive an immediate response but they also sent someone (Mr. Wilver) the very next day to inspect the installation. They agreed to assist with obtaining the rerquired permit for a very reasonable fee. My wife and I were truly impressed. Furthermore, the company excels at communication: they replied promptly to my emails to schedule the appointment and on the day of the service, they send a text message to let us know when the technician would arrive. When the schedule can be earlier, they notified me and offered the opportunity. The entire process was smooth, efficient, and resulted in a great outcome for everyone involved. I highly recommend this company- they are truly trustworthy.

We selected Princeton Air after receiving bids from four different contractors to replace a failed HVAC system. They worked harder than everyone else to earn our business. They handled the entire process of having the no interest payments added to our PSE&G monthly bill. The system was installed on a Thursday and when the A/C compressor was discovered to be noisier than we expected, they were back on the following Monday to replace it. No pushback. No hassles.

Benefits of a New Sump Pump System

A reliable sump system changes how a basement weathers a storm.

Here’s what homeowners gain when they install or upgrade.

A properly sized primary pump handles the groundwater your home actually sees, including the spring rain and summer thunderstorms that push the water table up across New Jersey. The basement stays dry while the neighborhood deals with flooding. For finished basements, this alone is often reason enough to install. The cost of a flooded basement is many multiples of the cost of the pump.

Battery backup and combination systems take over automatically when the primary pump loses power or fails. The storms that flood basements are the same storms that knock out the grid, and a backup is what bridges that gap. A primary pump alone is one power outage away from a flooded basement. A backup system removes that risk.

A sump pump running properly keeps moisture out of foundation walls, framing, and the basement slab. Without it, the slow damage compounds into major repairs down the line: mold remediation, drywall replacement, joist repair, and flooring. The pump is one of the cheapest pieces of equipment protecting some of the most expensive parts of the house.

A dry, protected basement is a feature buyers and inspectors both notice. Homes with visible sump system upgrades, especially battery backups, face fewer negotiation points during resale and move faster in the market. The investment pays back in peace of mind now and sale price later.

Not every home needs the same pump. Clay soil, a high water table, a finished basement, or nearby slopes all change the sizing equation. We size the equipment for what your home actually sees rather than a generic spec. The right-sized system runs only when needed, lasts longer, and handles the storms that matter.

Why New Jersey Homeowners Choose Princeton Air for Sump Pump Installation

A sump pump install is one of the jobs where quiet competence matters.

For more than 50 years, homeowners across the region have chosen Princeton Air for the equipment that protects the basement.

Sump pump installations cross plumbing and electrical. Our licensed teams handle both sides in the same visit, without the coordination headaches of multiple contractors.

A sump pump too small for the actual groundwater in your neighborhood fails during the storms that matter. We size the equipment against the water pattern your home actually sees, not a generic spec.

A primary pump alone is one power outage from a flooded basement. We talk through battery backup and combination systems on every install because they’re what actually protect the home.

Water pushed out of a sump pit can cause problems of its own if it’s discharged too close to the foundation or into an area that drains back. We route discharge lines properly and away from the house.

From Hillsborough Township and Somerset to Cranbury and Plainsboro, we’ve installed sump systems across the full range of soil and water-table conditions this part of New Jersey presents.

A sump pump is only useful if it runs when asked. Our Home Comfort Club members get scheduled sump system checks so the pump is ready before the next storm.

If the installation isn’t right, we come back. That commitment runs through the first day and every year the work protects your basement.

Complete Home Services For Your Home

A sump pump project often reveals other water management work worth addressing.

A sump system is part of the larger residential plumbing and electrical picture. The pump ties to power, the discharge ties to the outside, and the pit relies on good drainage overall.

When your existing plumbing system needs diagnostic work or a repair, our team handles it with the same care we bring to installation. Catching a small issue early keeps it small.

Annual service is how a plumbing system hits its rated efficiency and lifespan. Routine attention turns a system that might have lasted 10 years into one that lasts 15.

New Jersey hard water shortens the life of every water-using fixture in the house. A whole-home water softener protects everything from the water heater to the kitchen faucet.

A standby generator keeps the sump pump, the heat, and the rest of the home running when the grid goes down. We install and service generators alongside every other electrical project.

Schedule Your Sump Pump Installation

A properly installed sump pump is the equipment that keeps the basement dry through whatever the weather brings.

If your existing pump is aging, failing, or missing a backup, our licensed plumbers will install a reliable system sized for your home and your groundwater. Call Princeton Air to schedule your installation.

Sump Pump Installation FAQs

How long does a sump pump installation take?

Most primary sump pump replacements take two to three hours. New sump pit installations, battery backup additions, or combination systems can extend the timeline. Your plumber will give you a clear estimate during the assessment.

Do I need a battery backup?

For most New Jersey homes with finished basements or valuable storage below grade, yes. The storms that flood basements are the same storms that knock out power, and a primary pump with no backup is one power outage from a flood. We walk through the options during the visit.

How often should a sump pump be replaced?

Most pumps last seven to ten years. Heavy use shortens that. Light use in a home with a low water table can extend it slightly. Annual testing is the best way to catch a pump nearing end-of-life before it fails.

Can you install a pump where one doesn’t currently exist?

Yes. Adding a sump pit requires concrete work and proper drain configuration, and we coordinate the scope with you before starting. Retrofit installs are more involved than replacements but often worth it in homes that have had moisture issues.

Where should the water discharge?

The discharge line should route water well away from the foundation, typically at least ten feet from the house, and into an area that drains naturally. Discharging too close to the home can send water right back into the sump pit, which wastes pump life and keeps the basement moist. We plan the routing during the install.
